This activity supports IPC 7(B) (predicting properties from periodic-table patterns) and 7(C) (connecting properties to uses). It does not cover the full atomic-structure and bonding requirement of 7(A).

Properties are general patterns, not rules without exceptions. Graphite, a form of carbon, conducts electricity. Mercury is liquid at room temperature. Semiconductor behavior depends on material and conditions; it is not simply “half as conductive as a metal.”

This teaching map uses six commonly recognized metalloids: B, Si, Ge, As, Sb, and Te. It places Po with metals and At with nonmetals; these boundary classifications vary among references. Dashed cells (Mt–Og) use provisional classifications, not measured bulk properties. These elements are not assessed.

The two detached rows belong in periods 6 and 7, at the marked gaps. They are metals. Students can use arrow keys within the table and Enter or Space to select an element.

Object pictures are AI-generated illustrations. Animated diagrams are simplified property demonstrations, not laboratory measurements: moving dashes represent conventional current, heat colors represent warming, and deformation illustrates shape changes. All animations end within five seconds, can be replayed, and respect reduced-motion preferences.

The certification test has 10 multiple-choice questions; 8 correct earns a certificate. After saving or printing it, students confirm they have their copy, then receive a reminder to finish their property definitions in their notes and show their notes and certificate to the teacher. Writing is checked by the teacher, not scored by the app. No answers are sent to a server.
